Post 8: English Lenguage Challenges

I´ve always love english, so taking classes at the University was a really good thing for me. This subject and the use of blogs are very nostalgic to me, they take me back to when I was in high school. English is really such a beautifull and important lenguage, so I´m really thankfull for what I´ve learned.

I need to improve my writting because I´ve lost practice since I left high school. I don´t think I am bad at it but I tend to make the same small mistakes. I also would like to be more confident when I speak in english, because my pronunciation is not bad but I kinda get embarresed about it for no reason, I get nerveous someone is gonna laugh at me.

mood after finishing this semester

Personally, I use english everyday for watching videos in Youtube, listening to music, reading, etc. I want to keep exersicing this lenguage through small everyday things so that I never forget the basics.

English and lenguages in general are such a beautiful thing to teach and learn. I´m very thankfull for this oportunity to keep learning. <3

Post 7: Changes to my study program

I study journalism, I´m finishing my second year on december so I haven´t been through all of my career courses. I also don´t know my study program very well, but I do know the basics: classes for writing,  audiovisual classes, radio and investigative classes.

I personally think that we should have classes that teach about tools for investigative journalism since the sencond year, because it´s a very hard task and there´s a lot of different ways to gather important information, but not everybody remembers them.

One thing that I also feel my study program lacks of is more activities of doing stuff. It sounds confusing but let me put it this way: the first to years we go through the same writing structures over and over again but we write a very small amount. Sure, that´s because we write extensive things but I think that if (the first two years of the career) we write mostly short news or papers instead of two big projects for a class maybe we will have more opotunities to fail and learn.

The pandemic and quarantines haven´t been so helpfull to really enjoy the study program as it should be, but I hope next year we can experience it more as it should be: in a classroom, in the recording studio, in the tv room and doing more activities "in the streets", such as interviews, photography, etc.

Post 6: Time travel to the future

I'm probably not the best person to talk about the future because the future is scary to me. Of course sometimes I like to plan and dream about a NEAR future, I like setting goals to achieve but I don't like thinking about the responsabilities next to come in a FAR future.

Talking in a futuristic and imaginary way, I would like to go to a time where most of today's problems are discussed and resolve in a positive way for the humanity and environment, such as: pollution, addiction, corruption, explotaition, poverty, abuse, capitalism, etc. I would like to travel to a time where people are close to making this world a better place, because sometimes I lose faith in humanity because of the decisions we are making nowadays.

I don't know exactly what time would that be, it could be 5 years from now or 500 years from now. But I know that seeing an evolution or revolution for the well being of this society would be encouraging for me since I've seen and lived so many bad things during my life.

I wouldn't like to stay there, I would feel so out of place. I would like to come back and teach about the good things that I saw in the future to incorporate them as soon as possible.

Post 5: My future job

The future is something that I´m very scared of, especially when I think about how I´m going to find a job that helps me to pay the bills haha. But, at the moment, I would like to work as a investigative journalist.

I think investigative journalism is one of the most adrenalinic-fueled ways to pursue a career in journalism. I love to picture myself running from place to place, talking with a lot of people an staying up until 5 in the morning writting about the 100th case of corruption that involves Sebastián Piñera.

I would also like to travel a lot, whether it is inside or outside of Chile. Lots of investigative journalists that I know live outside of their countrys because of the risks of being persecuted or imprisoned by the powerfull people that they write about. I wouldn´t mind to do that when I grow up.

Investigative journalism seems like an outdoors and indoors job because you have to get into the place or context to relly know what is happening but you also need to register all the information in a document. I think that for the most part it has to be an indoor job because writing all that kind of stuff takes hours and hours. But I don´t think you necessarily need to be at an office to write, you just need a quiet place like your bedroom and a desk.

I´m in my second year of journalism, I got into this career out of guess. I didn´t relly knew what to study when I finished school, but once I entered journalism I fell in love with it.

I still don´t know what else do I specifically need to take to specialize in investigative journalism, but I will search when it´s time to.

Investigative journalism is a very risky job, but I love risks so it`s perfect to me.

I find this picture very funny, people with bad vision be like...

Post 4: My favorite TV show

Recently i’ve been more into movies than tv programs, but there’s a series that i like a lot: Black Mirror.

Black Mirror is a British anthology television series that comments on contemporary social issues through technology. For those who don’t know, an anthology series presents a different story and cast in each episode. With that in mind, you will understand that there’s different characters in every episode. All seasons are available on Netflix

My favorite episode is San Junipero, its the forth episode of the third season and it´s set in the late 80s. The episode tells the story about Yorkie, a very shy young women whose life changes after entering a bar and meeting a wild women called Kelly. In my opinion, this is the most happy and calm episodeof the entire series. The ending is sad but happy and beautiful at the same time.

I like this series because it’s different from the classic style that´s use to tell storys. The creators use dystopia scenarios to warn and critic about the future that’s not so far away and I find that very smart. I also like that even though every chapter story is different, almost all of them interconnect with each other trought references or "easter eggs".

Post 3: A person I would like to meet

I`ve said this so many times that I was prepared to answer this question. A person I would really like to meet is Chayanne <3

Elmer Figueroa (Chayanne) is a Puerto Rican singer, dancer and actor. He is the love of my mom`s life, so obviously I met him through her... Well, I haven´t "MET HIM", but I´ve met a little bit of his career as a musician. He is a really good performer or "showman", he dances really well and sings beautifully. His charismatic smile makes him look like a nice and fun person, he seems nice.

The thing I like the most about him are his dance moves, he moves better than people my age and by his age he could be our father.

He is very well known in the music industry because os his talent and successes. When he came to the festival of Viña del Mar in 2011, he won all of the awards avalible to give. He has also been part of very famous movies like "Tangled" and recently "Sing 2".

Despite his recent controversy regarding Pandora's Papers, I still think it would be amazing to meet him. My mom would be fangirling like a teen!!

Post 2: My life soundtrack

If someone asks me what my life soundtrack would sound like, my first answer will be "a mess". I`ve always been the type of person who listens to a great variety of music, but I do reconize some songs or bands that marked my life in different ways.

Starting off with Demi Lovato, a famous pop singer whose songs were definitely a big part of my childhood. I grew up religiously watching the movie "Camp Rock", which was starred by none other than Demi. The soundtrack was entirely in english, and the song "This is me" was the first song that I learned in another language.

Moving on to my adolescense, there was a period of time where I was in love with the classic songs from the group "Maroon 5". Specifically, I felt a personal attachement with "She will be loved". The simplicity of the bossa nova inspired melody mixed with the deep story behind the lyrics was just magic for me.

Another song that brings me back to my adolescense is tatuaje by Alex Anwandter, which is almost like a nostalgic anthem for a lot of young adults. I feel like this is a beautifull song about keeping the good memories even if they were from a complicated time in your life.

Last but not least, I think it´s important to highlight the punk band "7 year bitch". I don´t know how to explain it, but the history of this group and the meaning of the songs they made were very strinking to me. It´s not for everyone, but listening to them is a very different experience. You just have to read the lyrics and understand the narrative.
